Question

What are the advantages of using chemical grouting vs. regular cement grouting?

Answer

For controlling water inflows into underground mines, chemical grouting should only be considered for unique or special applications where cement grouting is not feasible or practical.

Based upon our experience working at underground mines, cement grouting is the primary method for controlling water inflows. For example, one of our mining clients experienced a water inflow into one of their underground tunnels; cement grouting was used to reduce the rate inflow to 6 cubic meters per hour. Chemical grouting was then used to seal small residual inflows that could not be accomplished by cement grouting and further reduce water inflows.
